I didn't know about this going in, but was fascinated early on with the dynamic concerning women and their importance to society and how patriarchal society has chosen to essentially enslave women rather than cherish them. For a book that supposedly reveres the luscious and rich linguistic dance of literature, this holds the belt for some of the most uninspiring language and heavy-handed delivery I've ever read. The act of book eating fades entirely into the background for a pallet-swapped cannibalism that is entirely plastic, heartless, and clunky beyond words. I might go so far as to say no book as ever squandered an interesting premise so poorly as The Book Eaters. Your mileage may vary, taste's may be radically different, and I don't want to take money out of another author's pockets. I've made an effort not to lambaste things I dislike on here for a handful of reasons. ![]()
